World Children's Transplant Fund: "When the children of our world die needlessly and without hope, a piece of us dies with them whether we know it or not. And when we help just one to live, we find a small piece of immeasurable, indescribably joy." -- Mark A. Kroeker, Founder, WCTF

Neuralstem to Sponsor the National Veterans Wheelchair Games, Hosted by the Paralyzed Veterans of America

ROCKVILLE, Md., April 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Stem cell company Neuralstem, Inc. (AMEX:CUR) has become a National sponsor of the National Veterans Wheelchair Games, the largest annual wheelchair sports competition of its kind in the world, co-presented by the Paralyzed Veterans of America (Paralyzed Veterans) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), in Omaha, Nebraska, July 25-29, 2008.

"Neuralstem is committed to finding treatments for spinal cord injuries of all types," said Neuralstem CEO, Richard Garr. "The Paralyzed Veterans of America has been committed to serving the needs of veterans in the spinal cord injury community for nearly 62 years. With the daily challenges facing paralyzed veterans from the greatest generation to the latest generation, the organization's work is even more important than ever before and we are proud to be partners in their efforts."

Paralyzed Veterans' National President Randy L. Pleva, Sr. stated, "Neuralstem's support of this year's National Veterans Wheelchair Games is particularly appropriate given our long-standing commitment to finding a cure for paralysis. A primary outcome associated with the Games is to provide opportunities for the wheelchair athletes to continue their rehabilitation and, in doing so, improve the quality of their lives. Neuralstem's mission meshes well with the goals of the Games."

The Wheelchair Games are open to all U.S. military veterans who use wheelchairs for sports competition due to spinal cord injuries, certain neurological conditions, amputations or other mobility impairments. Veterans competing in the National Veterans Wheelchair Games come from nearly all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Great Britain.

At the Games, veterans will compete in track and field, swimming, basketball, weightlifting, softball, air guns, quad rugby, 9-ball, bowling, table tennis, archery, handcycling, a motorized rally, wheelchair slalom, a power wheelchair relay and power soccer.

About Neuralstem

Neuralstem's patented technology enables, for the first time, the ability to produce neural stem cells of the human brain and spinal cord in commercial quantities, and the ability to control the differentiation of these cells into mature, physiologically relevant human neurons and glia.

Major Central Nervous System diseases targeted by the Company with research programs currently underway include: Ischemic Paraplegia, Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury and ALS. The company's cells have extended the life of rats with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) as reported the journal TRANSPLANTATION, in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University researchers, and also reversed paralysis in rats with Ischemic Spastic Paraplegia, as reported in NEUROSCIENCE on June 29, 2007, in collaboration with researchers at University of California San Diego.

The company has also developed immortalized human neural stem cells for in-vitro use in drug development for the academic and pharmaceutical markets. For further information, please visit http://www.neuralstem.com/.

For 61 years, Paralyzed Veterans and our 34 chapters have been working to create an America where all veterans, people with disabilities, and their families have everything they need to thrive. We represent more than 19,000 veterans in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Please go to http://www.pva.org/ for more about the work we do.
